cPVC vs uPVC pipes
Reducing your Plumbing Cost
For those who are building their dream homes :)
Upvc Vs CPVC pipes...
With the recent trend in the market or craze over cPVC pipes for internal water supply in households, one would be tempted to opt for cPVC pipes for their homes believing that costlier would be better, and when the question is of your dream home no compromise is acceptable. YOU DESERVE THE BEST.
So spend those hard earned money wisely, don't let it waste.
So spend those hard earned money wisely, don't let it waste.
So before we proudly say to your plumber "Get me the best pipes" there are a few facts we should know.
cPVC pipes differ from uPVC pipes only in their better heat resistivity(that too for just upto 80 C), thus its better suited for hot water distribution.
Further cPVC pipes by nature have poorer resistance to UV and hence areas where the pipes are exposed to sunlight degrade and become brittle far quicker than uPVC pipes.Add to this is the fact that uPVC pipes are much thicker than cPVC pipes and thus are much sturdier even in extreme climate.
The only real advantage of cPVC pipes is/was their quick installation, as it from the onset has used push fittings, which makes it very easy and comfortable for plumbers, whereas uPVC pipes traditionally used threaded fittings which requires considerable skill and patience by your plumber for installation, this is the primary reason that plumbers prefer cPVC installations TO MAKE HIS JOB EASIER. However with the onset of uPVC push fittings its a level field now.
So please consider this-
In an ideal scenario, not even 10% of total water supply in any water distribution system is used for Hot water supply ,mainly from geyser to tap which is hardly 10 to 15 feet in a bathroom , whereas cold water distribution in the same house hold will easily exceed 200 to 300 feet , from underground to your tank and back down to every tap.
But due to ignorance we often go in for complete cPVC pipes and fitting believing "new is better" , but the reality is we are paying nearly double per feet of plumbing installation for a benefit not needed nor required in cold water distribution.
So the next time someone proudly says " I have used complete cPVC :)". Just ask him, "Why ????"
PS. 1" dia uPVC plumbing pipe costs upward Rs 330 per 10 feet , compared
to Rs 500 per 10 feet 1" dia cPVC pipes
to Rs 500 per 10 feet 1" dia cPVC pipes
Temperature tolerance is only 30 degree above upvc. what if thermostat fails. get ready for breaking tiles on bathroom walls in case of Cpvc pipes.
From health point of view also uPVC is better.

Recently talked to many plumbers in USA. They told me, if I install cPVC pipes in my home, they will not come even for repairs.
They prefer uPVC, PEX or copper pipes.
